The difficult second was for The Last Dinner Party, who, after the explosive success of 'Prelude To Ecstacy,' were, to be honest, a walk in the park. They enjoyed working on 'From The Pyre' under the guidance of Grammy-winning producer Marcus Dravs (known for Florence & The Machine and Björk). For The Last Dinner Party, who explore a variety of themes on 'From The Pyre' (from guns, scythes, sailors, saints, cowboys, floods, Mother Earth, Joan of Arc, to burning infernos, to name just a few), it further developed their songwriting talent.
It also means, according to them, that 'From The Pyre' is considerably darker than its predecessor: "This record feels rawer and earthier; it takes place while looking out over a sublime landscape instead of sitting at a luxurious table." It also feels metatextual and brazen, in places, like a knowing gaze bouncing back at ourselves.
