In 2026, we are so surrounded by AI and caricatured tyrants that even Muse was ready for a different subject. Bellamy and co. venture deep into space on what is, of course, another wildly ambitious album, but also sounds more human than we have come to expect from the British band in recent years. Between the metal moments, Eurovision-esque pathos, and the extravagant French disco of 'Nightshift Superstar', the music on The Wow! Signal is allowed to breathe for a change, even move us a little, as on the Bond-worthy 'Shimmering Scars' and the admittedly hard-galloping opening epic 'The Dark Forest', on which Bellamy sings: "launch a pulse out into the abyss, reach out a hand to the lonely." Muse loves computers, drones, and robots, but they haven't forgotten humanity.
